Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How do I get the plate?
A. There are presently several ways to get the new license plate. One is to go into any DMV location in Utah and tell the clerk you want the new "Pets in Utah" license plate.

A faster way is to download our online printable application. You will need Adobe's free Acrobat Reader to view/print the order form.

Print the form, fill it in and send it to the specified address, along with your check for $43.00 ($25.00 donation, $15.00 license plate fee, $3.00 shipping fee). Your new license plates will be sent directly to you!

Q. Can I order my license plate online from the DMV?
A. Yes, Go to the Utah DMV - dmv.utah.gov/register.html. Once you are on the site, click on Taxes and Fees on the left-hand bar. Then click on License Plate Fees and then Personalized Plates. You will need to fill out and send in form TC 817.

Q. Can I use the DMV's online Renewal Express?
A. No. Renewal Express can only be used if you’re keeping your old license plates exactly as they are. However, once you get your "Pets in Utah" license plates this year, you may use Renewal Express in subsequent years.

Q. Is my $25 tax deductible?
A. Yes. Hold on to your DMV receipt as proof of your donation.

Q. Is the $25 a one-time fee?
A. No. The $25.00 donation is an annual donation, which means anytime you renew your plate, you will be funding at least one spay/neuter and saving countless lives. Utah's companion animals THANK YOU!!

Q. Can I get a my new "Pets in Utah" license plate personalized?
A. Yes! But the decal takes up 2 letter/number spots, so you can only have a 5 character personalization. While you can send in an application form for your personalized plates, it is recommended that you go into DMV to see if your personalization preference is still available. The DMV does have an online site to check if your personalization preference is available (http://www.utah.gov/serv/upps). Remember, there is also an extra one-time $55.00 fee and a yearly $10.00 fee for your personalized plates as well as a$3 shipping fee, none of which goes to spay/neuter.

Check Yes to Save Pets

No More Homeless Pets in Utah was an active part of making last year's spay/neuter bill a reality. As a result, this is the first year you can show your support of statewide spay/neuter efforts by checking yes to donate to the Cat and Dog Spay and Neuter Community Program on your Utah state income-tax return. Chasing Tail Bottle Cap Program

Did you know that Squatters Pubs & Microbrewery (Salt Lake Brewing Company, www.squatters.com) and No More Homeless Pets in Utah have enjoyed a partnership since 2004? Through their Chasing Tail Golden Ale, Squatters has become a major supporter of our organization. People are encouraged to collect the Chasing Tail bottle caps and return them to Squatters. At the end of the year, the caps are counted and for every cap collected, they donate 5˘ to us!

To make it easier for people to participate in the cap return program, Squatters has put together labeled jugs that located at key locations along the Wasatch Front. This makes it more convenient for Chasing Tail customers to support our cause!
